Discovering Antonio Vivaldi and his Lost Music
Thursday March 30 2023 10:30 am-15:00 pm Royal Antibes Hotel, 16, Boulevard Maréchal Leclerc - 06600 Antibes
Susan Orlando, Artistic Director of the 'Vivaldi Edition' will present how this project came to be and how it has unfolded over the last 20 years. Susan has been presenting this story to numerous audiences worldwide. For those who love music this is a rare chance to know more about the music of this gifted composer.
In 1930 the National Library in Turin purchased a collection of music manuscripts in the hand of the great Venetian composer, Antonio Vivaldi. The greater part of the collection, made up of no less than 450 works by Vivaldi - hundreds of concertos for various instruments and the only source we have of his sacred music and operas - had never been heard by today's public. Not until 2000 did this music finally resurface with the launching of the Vivaldi Edition, an ambitious recording project aimed at getting this trove of music to the public. To date there are no less than seventy CDs available and there remain but a few years to the project's completion.
This talk will cover the intriguing story of how, upon Vivaldi's death, these music manuscripts made their way from his home in Venice to a palazzo in Genova and finally to Turin. Padding this subject will be much information about Vivaldi, from the famed all-girl's orchestra, with whom he worked all his life, to myriad details on his health, his career as an opera composer and much more.
For more details on the Vivaldi Edition recordings and history visit the website: www.vivaldiedition.net. Apple Music, Spotify and Qobuz offer listeners a playlist comprised of over 4-hours of music from the Vivaldi Edition.
After the talk lunch will be served the menu to be advised later
